Welcome

Announcement for Holy Week Services and Easter

A SERVICE OF WORSHIP FOR HOLY THURSDAY EVENING

Introduction: On this night Christians commemorate the supper Jesus shared with his disciples before his crucifixion, when Jesus washed the disciples’ feet and instituted the Sacrament of the Lord’s Supper. We join a solemn journey of three days that has changed the world and our own lives.Followers of Jesus have been taking this journey since his first followers took it, long ago.

Greeting:

The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with you.
And also with you.
Taste and see the goodness of the Lord for Christ calls us to the Holy Supper of Remembrance.

Prayer:

He is with us, and we are his. We belong to God. And so we pray:
We are yours, all yours, blessed Triune God,
all our lives, all our thanks, all our praise,
all our fears, all our grumbling, all our hesitations,
all our loves, all our joys, all our passions,
we give them all to you, with bodies, and minds and voices.
Yours, all yours! Amen

Hymn: Come to the Table – Michael Card with visual

Introduction to the Drama:

Let us declare our need of forgiveness and cleansing.
Jesus, our feet are dirty from the journey.
We have not loved one another as you have loved us.
Callousness and violence stain our hearts and lives.
How will we become clean again?
We see the table there,
but who will make us clean and ready for the meal?
Where will we find water for these soiled soles?
Restore us to the joy of God’s salvation.
Amen.

Drama: Reading with PowerPoint

Hymn: Written in Red – Steve Hawkins

Closing Prayer:

Thank you, God, for uniting us with Jesus in this holy mystery.
We are no longer our own, but yours.
So send us, and put us to leading and serving,
loving as you have loved us
wherever we go. Amen.

Benediction:

This is the night of love.
Go forth in the strength of this feast, in the care of this community, and with the love and blessing of our Triune God. Amen.

“Oh, taste and see and sing! The love of God is given!”
