Advent 4 – Hope – December 20, 2020 Order of Worship

Welcome and Announcements

Lighting the Advent Candle – Love:

We gather on this fourth Sunday of Advent as one of many congregations from around the world united by Christ’s peace. A peace not as the world gives but the peace that only Christ was able to bring and will bring again into our world. But until that day may we remember the healing words of Micah 6:8who instructs us in a righteous way of holy living that brings hope to the world and peace to the soul when there is no peace on this earth to be found. For the Prophet Micah reminds us, God has shown He has shown you,

O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you?
To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly[a] with your God.

Today we light the Advent candle of peace in this season of waiting praying that God will keep us in his perfect peace..

Open our eyes to your perfect peace. Grant the courage to stand up for your holy peace that brings your righteous hope. Lead us to follow the words of Micah 6:8 move in us to set aside the sinful desires and hear your words of peace and reconciliation speaking to our deepest being. Amen

Call:

Let the bells ring out calling us to worship together as we gather in many different places at different times.

Lord gather us together in praise and send us out in mission to a world in need of your holy peace and reconciliation.

Choral Response: Let There Be Peace On Earth

Prayer of Illumination:

Good and gracious God – how thrilling is the reminder that nothing is impossible with you.
For we face limitations and frustrations and difficulties and challenges with regularity.
We ask you to come to us with your perfect peace.
Speak into our lives this day as we worship together.
Move in us to bring both our hopes and fears to the manager of your presence.
Gives us hearts full of expectation and gratitude for your Word made available to us.
Speak Lord for your servants are listening. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Hymn of Praise: Angels from the Realms of Glory

Psalter: Psalm 189: 1- 8
I will sing of the Lord’s great love forever; with my mouth I will make your faithfulness known through all generations.

I will declare that your love stands firm forever, that you have established your faithfulness in heaven itself.

You said, “I have made a covenant with my chosen one, I have sworn to David my servant,

‘I will establish your line forever and make your throne firm through all generations.’”

The heavens praise your wonders, Lord, your faithfulness too, in the assembly of the holy ones.

For who in the skies above can compare with the Lord? Who is like the Lord among the heavenly beings?

In the council of the holy ones God is greatly feared; he is more awesome than all who surround him.

Who is like you, Lord God Almighty? You, Lord, are mighty, and your faithfulness surrounds you.
