Prayers of the People

Pastor: Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts; the whole earth is full of his glory. God of majesty and mystery, your love and purpose embrace us. You set us in a world of beauty and bounty and invite us to meet you in the midst of its wonders. By the power of the Holy Spirit, we pray to God our Father in the name of Christ Jesus our Lord, making intercession for the Church, the world, and for all people according to their need.

People: Loving God, we come before you in prayer, trusting that your power works in the world in ways we cannot even imagine. Fill the people of this congregation with wisdom and humility. Make us faithful, generous, and holy. Use us to draw many people into your holy embrace.

Pastor: Build up your Church in mature faith, patient suffering, generous service, and gracious hospitality. Use us to reveal the mysteries of your love, so that many people seek your face, and live. Lord, hear our prayers for the Church, the world, and for one another. Keep your persecuted Church in your care, and bless their faithful witness. We ask for your special touch upon all who are suffering for their faith. Be their source of hope and strength.

People: Hear our prayers for Alexander Chapel UMC. Guide our leadership to seek your ways. Give them the mission and future vision you have for us. Show us the tasks you have for each of us. We ask you to continue to lead and strengthen our pastors. We give thanks for your provision and protection and ask you to guide us as we care for all that you have entrusted to our overseeing.

Pastor: For those who are sick among us and those who have asked our church to pray, we ask for your tender care.  For all who are grieving many kinds of loss and those seeking direction, we pray for comfort and wisdom.

People: Lord, we remember those who are not with us today, we ask for your blessing to be on them.

Pastor: We pray for your blessing upon our nation – and for all nations. Guide our leaders with your Spirit of wisdom and understanding, counsel and might. Remind them that they must give to you an account of how they have used the power and authority entrusted to them.

People: Prince of Peace, our world is broken by violence and our hearts torn with lament. For all who are suffering the ravages of war, displacement we pray for restoration to come. For all who dedicate their lives to being on the frontlines of justice and safety we pray. Grant their families peace over their concerns. May our peace always be sought in the righteousness and way of the Lord.

Pastor: Lord, hear the prayers of your people.

People: As Pastor Ray brings the message today we ask for your holy hand upon him.  Speak through him with the message we need to hear and receive into our hearts.

Pastor: Transform us for the glory of your kingdom and send us out ready to serve. Hear our prayers,as we pray following the example that Christ gave his disciples for prayer.

All:  Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil.  For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever.  Amen
